Strawberry And Cherry Preserves

Ingredients

  • 1 pound strawberries
  • 1 pound cherries
  • 1 pound loaf sugar
  • 1 pint water

Method

  1. 1 Pound cherries in a mortar, crushing as many stones as possible.
  2. 2 Place cherries, water, and sugar in a stewpan and boil for one hour without a lid.
  3. 3 Strain the syrup into a small stewpan and reduce until it begins to thicken.
  4. 4 Remove stalks from strawberries, add them to the syrup, and shake to coat.
  5. 5 Lift strawberries into a glass dish.
  6. 6 Reduce the syrup again until quite thick, pour over strawberries, and allow to cool completely.
