Stewed Prunes With Lemon
Ingredients
- 1 lb prunes
- 1 cup sugar
- water for soaking and cooking
- lemon slices or peel (optional)
Method
- 1 Sort and wash prunes thoroughly. Soak in warm water for 6 hours.
- 2 Place prunes and soaking water in a pot. Ensure water covers prunes. Cook slowly until prunes are tender and seeds separate easily.
- 3 Add sugar and cook until completely dissolved. Add lemon slices or peel if desired.
- 4 Remove from heat and cool. Serve as a sauce with cake or as a breakfast fruit.
