Stewed Prunes With Lemon

Ingredients

  • 1 lb prunes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • water for soaking and cooking
  • lemon slices or peel (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Sort and wash prunes thoroughly. Soak in warm water for 6 hours.
  2. 2 Place prunes and soaking water in a pot. Ensure water covers prunes. Cook slowly until prunes are tender and seeds separate easily.
  3. 3 Add sugar and cook until completely dissolved. Add lemon slices or peel if desired.
  4. 4 Remove from heat and cool. Serve as a sauce with cake or as a breakfast fruit.
