Stewed Oyster Loaves
Ingredients
- 3 French rolls
- ½ lb butter, divided
- 1 pint oysters
- ½ pint water
- 1 anchovy
- Pepper and salt to taste
Method
- 1 Cut out the crumb from the French rolls.
- 2 Heat the hollowed rolls near a fire until hot throughout, turning often.
- 3 Melt the butter and brush some inside the heated rolls.
- 4 Stew the oysters with water, anchovy, butter, pepper, and salt until thickened.
- 5 Fill the rolls with oysters and pour the remaining sauce over the top.
