Stewed Onions In Red Wine

Ingredients

  • 20-30 onions
  • 1 bunch sweet herbs
  • Salt to taste
  • Few cloves
  • 1 laurel leaf
  • 1 piece butter
  • Flour (for rolling butter)
  • 1 pint red wine
  • Toast slices

Method

  1. 1 Boil onions with sweet herbs, salt, cloves, and laurel leaf for 15 minutes. Remove onions.
  2. 2 Place onions in a stew-pan with salt, butter rolled in flour, and red wine.
  3. 3 Stew for another 15 minutes. Serve garnished with toast dipped in the sauce.
