Stewed Beef Steaks With Wine And Onions

Ingredients

  • 1 beef loin cut into steaks
  • ½ cup Claret or white wine
  • ½ cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3-4 whole onions
  • 1 bundle of sweet herbs
  • 1-2 large pieces mace

Method

  1. 1 Place beef steaks in a deep stewing pan. Add wine, water, salt, pepper, whole onions, sweet herbs, and mace.
  2. 2 Cover the pan tightly and stew on low heat for 2 hours, turning the steaks occasionally.
  3. 3 Serve the steaks and sauce over toasted bread slices (sippets).
