Steamed Clams With Melted Butter

Ingredients

  • 4 quarts live clams in shell
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • Melted butter for serving
  • Lemon juice or vinegar (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Wash clams thoroughly, scrubbing with a brush and changing the water several times until clean.
  2. 2 Place clams in a large kettle with 1/2 cup hot water. Cover closely and steam until shells partially open.
  3. 3 Serve immediately with individual dishes of melted butter. Add a few drops of lemon juice or vinegar if desired.
