Steamed Chocolate Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 3 cups stale bread
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 squares chocolate
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Soften the stale bread in the milk.
  2. 2 Melt the chocolate over hot water.
  3. 3 Mix the melted chocolate with sugar, salt, beaten eggs, and vanilla.
  4. 4 Combine the chocolate mixture thoroughly with the soaked bread.
  5. 5 Place the mixture into well-buttered custard cups.
  6. 6 Steam for about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the cups.
  7. 7 Serve in the cups or turned out onto a warm plate.
