Spiced Red Lentil Dal
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup dried red lentils
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 chili peppers, split in half
Method
- 1 Rinse lentils in a strainer. Combine with 1 tsp oil and 1/2 tsp salt, then boil in 1 1/2 cups water until soft and yellow.
- 2 Stir turmeric, cumin, and sugar into the boiled lentils.
- 3 Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add chili peppers and onion, stirring until onion turns light brown.
- 4 Add 2 tbsp of the spiced lentils to the onion mixture and stir for one minute.
- 5 Add the remaining lentils and 1 cup water. Boil for two minutes and serve over rice.
