Spiced Molasses Raisin Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups butter, softened
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, finely rolled
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon rose brandy
  • 1 nutmeg, grated or a pinch of mace
  • 4 large eggs, well beaten
  • 1 cup raisins, stoned and chopped
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Method

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter six bread pans.
  2. 2 Rub butter into flour, then mix in brown sugar, molasses, brandy, spice, eggs, and raisins.
  3. 3 Dissolve soda in sour cream, add to batter, and beat well.
  4. 4 Fill pans three-quarters full. Bake until browned, covering with paper if needed.
