Spiced Molasses Raisin Bread
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups butter, softened
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar, finely rolled
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 tablespoon rose brandy
- 1 nutmeg, grated or a pinch of mace
- 4 large eggs, well beaten
- 1 cup raisins, stoned and chopped
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Method
- 1 Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter six bread pans.
- 2 Rub butter into flour, then mix in brown sugar, molasses, brandy, spice, eggs, and raisins.
- 3 Dissolve soda in sour cream, add to batter, and beat well.
- 4 Fill pans three-quarters full. Bake until browned, covering with paper if needed.
