Spiced Molasses Drop Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 6 tablespoons shortening
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 egg
- 1 cup sour milk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 7 cups flour
Method
- 1 Place molasses and shortening in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
- 2 Remove from heat and stir in ginger, cinnamon, and allspice.
- 3 Let the mixture cool slightly, then beat in the egg, sour milk, and baking soda.
- 4 Gradually add flour to form a soft dough that can be handled.
- 5 Form dough into walnut-sized balls and flatten between your hands.
- 6 Bake on a greased and floured inverted baking pan in a moderate oven (350°F) for 10 minutes.
