Spiced Gingerbread Cookies With Citron And Almonds
Ingredients
- 1½ cups flour
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ tsp ground cloves
- ½ tsp cream of tartar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/8 lb citron, chopped fine
- 1/8 lb almonds, chopped
- plain white or lemon frosting, for icing
Method
- 1 Sift together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cream of tartar.
- 2 Mix the sugar and beaten eggs thoroughly, then combine with the flour mixture.
- 3 Stir in the chopped citron and almonds. Roll out dough on a floured board to ¼ inch thickness.
- 4 Place on a greased cookie sheet and bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes.
- 5 Cut into squares or diamonds while warm, then ice thinly with plain white or lemon frosting.
