Spiced Fruit Bread With Candied Citron
Ingredients
- 2 lbs flour
- 3/4 cup Crisco
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cake yeast
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup sultana raisins
- 1 cup currants
- 1/2 cup seeded raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped candied citron peel
- 1 tsp powdered ginger
- 1/2 tsp powdered mace
Method
- 1 Heat Crisco in milk, then cool. Dissolve yeast cake in a little sugar and stir into the milk mixture.
- 2 Stir in flour and salt. Allow dough to rise for four hours.
- 3 Mix sugar, fruit, peel, and spices into the risen dough. Let rise again.
- 4 Divide dough into two greased loaf tins. Allow to rise for fifteen minutes.
- 5 Bake in a 350°F oven for one and a half hours.
