Spiced Candied Walnuts In Syrup
Ingredients
- fine large walnuts
- whole cloves
- cinnamon splinters
- candied orange peel
- sugar
- water
Method
- 1 Prick 7-8 holes in each walnut with a bodkin to drain water. Soak in water until they lose their green color.
- 2 Boil walnuts in cold water until just soft but not mushy. Spread on a coarse cloth to cool and drain completely.
- 3 Insert 3-4 cloves, cinnamon splinters, and candied orange peel into each walnut. Place in pots or glasses.
- 4 Boil a thin sugar syrup. Pour the cooled syrup over the walnuts and let stand for 1-2 days.
- 5 Pour off the syrup, add more sugar, and boil again. Pour the hot syrup over the walnuts. Seal when cold.
