Spiced Baked Pears
Ingredients
- 12 large baking pears
- 1 lemon (rind and juice)
- 1 small stick cinnamon
- 20 grains allspice
- 1 lb loaf sugar
- 1.5 cups water
Method
- 1 Peel pears, cut in half, and leave a 1/2-inch stem. Remove the core with a knife.
- 2 Place pears close together in a saucepan with lemon rind, lemon juice, cinnamon, and allspice.
- 3 Add water and sugar. Cover tightly and bake in a slow oven (300°F) for 6 hours until tender.
