Spiced Baked Pears

Ingredients

  • 12 large baking pears
  • 1 lemon (rind and juice)
  • 1 small stick cinnamon
  • 20 grains allspice
  • 1 lb loaf sugar
  • 1.5 cups water

Method

  1. 1 Peel pears, cut in half, and leave a 1/2-inch stem. Remove the core with a knife.
  2. 2 Place pears close together in a saucepan with lemon rind, lemon juice, cinnamon, and allspice.
  3. 3 Add water and sugar. Cover tightly and bake in a slow oven (300°F) for 6 hours until tender.
