Southern Sally Lunn Cake
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 cake compressed yeast
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- Warm water
Method
- 1 Dissolve yeast in 2 cups milk.
- 2 Beat flour, eggs, yeast mixture, butter, and sugar into a stiff batter.
- 3 Let rise for 5 to 6 hours.
- 4 Dissolve baking soda in a little warm water and stir into batter.
- 5 Pour into a buttered tube cake pan.
- 6 Bake for 45 minutes.
- 7 Serve hot, tearing apart instead of cutting.
