Slow Oven Baked Nutmeg Custard

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 2 oz lump sugar
  • 3 eggs, lightly beaten
  • grated nutmeg or lemon peel, to taste

Method

  1. 1 Boil milk and sugar together in a saucepan.
  2. 2 Pour the boiling hot milk mixture over the lightly beaten eggs, stirring gently.
  3. 3 Add grated nutmeg or lemon peel for flavor.
  4. 4 Pour the custard into an ungreased tart dish.
  5. 5 Place the tart dish in a larger pan filled three-quarters full with boiling water.
  6. 6 Bake in a slow oven (300°F) for 40 minutes, or until the custard is firm.
