Slow Cooked Shredded Cabbage With Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage, outer leaves removed and quartered
  • Salt for soaking water
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 oz (2 tablespoons) butter
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk or water

Method

  1. 1 Quarter the cabbage lengthwise and soak in salt water to remove insects. Rinse thoroughly in clean water until salt is gone.
  2. 2 Shred the cabbage finely. Place in a pot with 1/2 cup water, butter, salt, and pepper.
  3. 3 Cook gently for 2 hours until very tender.
  4. 4 Mix flour with a little milk or water to smooth. Stir into the cabbage and boil briefly to thicken the liquid.
