Slow Cooked Shredded Cabbage With Butter
Ingredients
- 1 head cabbage, outer leaves removed and quartered
- Salt for soaking water
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 oz (2 tablespoons) butter
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon wheat flour
- 1-2 tablespoons milk or water
Method
- 1 Quarter the cabbage lengthwise and soak in salt water to remove insects. Rinse thoroughly in clean water until salt is gone.
- 2 Shred the cabbage finely. Place in a pot with 1/2 cup water, butter, salt, and pepper.
- 3 Cook gently for 2 hours until very tender.
- 4 Mix flour with a little milk or water to smooth. Stir into the cabbage and boil briefly to thicken the liquid.
