Sliced Meat Casserole With Onion Gravy
Ingredients
- leftover cold meat (pork, beef, veal, ham, or mutton), sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 onion, finely sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- water, as needed
- 1 tsp meat extract
- 1 pinch salt
- mashed potatoes, light and fluffy
Method
- 1 Melt 1 tbsp butter in a pan. Add sliced onion and cook until browned.
- 2 In another pan, melt 1 tbsp butter and whisk in flour. Add the browned onions and butter mixture.
- 3 Add enough water to create a thin sauce. Stir in meat extract and salt.
- 4 Place meat slices in a fireproof dish, pour sauce over them, then top with mashed potatoes.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until well heated through.
