Shoo Fly Pie
Ingredients
- ¼ cup shortening
- 1½ cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ¾ teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- a little ginger, cinnamon and cloves
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup molasses
- ¾ cup hot water
- 1 unbaked pie shell
Method
- 1 Work shortening, flour, and brown sugar together to form crumbs.
- 2 Mix baking soda, nutmeg, spices, salt, molasses, and hot water.
- 3 Layer crumbs and liquid in an unbaked pie shell, starting and ending with crumbs.
- 4 Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F and bake for 20 minutes.
