Shallow Pan Vanilla Sponge Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons shortening

Method

  1. 1 Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2 Add milk, beaten egg, and melted shortening; beat for 2 minutes.
  3. 3 Pour into a greased shallow pan and bake in a hot oven (425°F) for about 20 minutes.
  4. 4 Serve with lemon, chocolate, or other sauce.
