Scalloped Brussels Sprouts With White Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 quart Brussels sprouts
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup buttered breadcrumbs
Method
- 1 Remove outer leaves from sprouts and soak in cold salted water for 1 hour to remove bugs.
- 2 Cover sprouts with boiling water, add 1 tsp salt per quart, and boil uncovered until tender. Drain.
- 3 Melt 2 tablespoons butter, whisk in flour, salt, and milk to make a white sauce.
- 4 Melt remaining 1 tablespoon butter and toss with breadcrumbs.
- 5 Layer half the crumbs, half the sprouts, remaining crumbs, and remaining sprouts in a baking dish.
- 6 Pour sauce over sprouts, top with remaining crumbs, and bake until crumbs are brown.
