Sally Lunn Buns

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cake compressed yeast
  • 5 eggs, beaten separately
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • Additional flour as needed

Method

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in milk. Mix with flour, salt, and sugar to form a batter. Let rise in a warm place for 3 hours.
  2. 2 Gradually work beaten eggs and melted butter into the risen batter.
  3. 3 Add enough flour to create a stiff batter. Fill buttered muffin tins two-thirds full.
  4. 4 Let rise again, then bake in a moderate oven (350°F) until golden brown.
