Rye Drop Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups rye flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/3 cups milk
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 4 tablespoons fat
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

Method

  1. 1 Sift the dry ingredients (rye flour, bread flour, salt, cream of tartar, and baking soda) together.
  2. 2 Cut in the fat until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3 Add the milk and stir until just combined.
  4. 4 Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased baking sheet.
  5. 5 Bake in a hot oven (425°F) for 12 to 15 minutes.
