Pull Vanilla Taffy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 walnut-sized piece butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon water, vinegar, butter, and salt.
  2. 2 Boil the mixture without stirring until it forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water.
  3. 3 Pour onto a buttered surface and let cool until safe to handle. Pull the candy until it lightens in color.
  4. 4 Add vanilla extract and continue pulling briefly to incorporate. Stretch, cut into pieces, and wrap.
