Prune Date Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup prunes or dates
  • 2½ cups graham flour (or 1 cup flour and 1½ cups graham flour)
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening

Method

  1. 1 Wash prunes, soak for several hours, then drain, stone, and chop. Alternatively, use stoned and chopped dates.
  2. 2 Mix flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a bowl.
  3. 3 Add milk to create a soft dough and beat well.
  4. 4 Stir in the chopped fruit and melted shortening.
  5. 5 Pour into a greased bread pan and let stand in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour.
