Polenta With Sausages And Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cornmeal (preferably granular)
  • 1 ½ quarts water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 piece butter
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or small piece butter
  • Sausages
  • 2-3 bay leaves (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Bring 1 ½ quarts of salted water to a boil in a large pot.
  2. 2 Slowly whisk in the cornmeal, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps.
  3. 3 When the polenta is half cooked, add the butter and slowly stir in the milk.
  4. 4 While polenta cooks, heat olive oil or butter in a saucepan. Add pricked sausages and bay leaves, cooking until done.
  5. 5 Pour the hot polenta into a serving dish. Create a well in the center and fill it with the cooked sausages and their gravy. Serve immediately.
