Peach Kernel Custard
Ingredients
- 1 quart new milk
- 12 peach kernels, scalded, peeled, and rubbed fine
- 5 to 6 eggs
- sugar to taste
- nutmeg, grated
- lemon peel (optional)
Method
- 1 Place milk and optional lemon peel in a pot and bring to a boil.
- 2 Prepare peach kernels by scalding, peeling, and rubbing them fine.
- 3 Beat eggs with sugar in a separate bowl.
- 4 When milk boils, stir in the egg mixture and peach kernels.
- 5 Stir constantly until the custard thickens, but do not let it boil again.
- 6 Remove from heat, pour into a pitcher, and stir until nearly cold.
- 7 Pour into serving cups and grate nutmeg over the top.
