Peach Kernel Custard

Ingredients

  • 1 quart new milk
  • 12 peach kernels, scalded, peeled, and rubbed fine
  • 5 to 6 eggs
  • sugar to taste
  • nutmeg, grated
  • lemon peel (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Place milk and optional lemon peel in a pot and bring to a boil.
  2. 2 Prepare peach kernels by scalding, peeling, and rubbing them fine.
  3. 3 Beat eggs with sugar in a separate bowl.
  4. 4 When milk boils, stir in the egg mixture and peach kernels.
  5. 5 Stir constantly until the custard thickens, but do not let it boil again.
  6. 6 Remove from heat, pour into a pitcher, and stir until nearly cold.
  7. 7 Pour into serving cups and grate nutmeg over the top.
