Orange Sponge Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Method

  1. 1 Cream Crisco, salt, beaten egg yolks, and sugar; beat for five minutes.
  2. 2 Mix in orange extract and cold water.
  3. 3 Beat egg whites to stiff peaks.
  4. 4 Alternately add the egg whites and flour mixture (sifted with baking powder) to the batter.
  5. 5 Divide batter into greased and floured gem pans.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 15 minutes.
