Orange Cake With Orange Icing
Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp orange extract
- 1 cup milk
- 5 eggs
- 4 cups flour
- 1 cup Crisco
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 1/2 tsp orange extract
Method
- 1 Cream Crisco and 2 cups sugar together. Add salt and well-beaten eggs.
- 2 Add orange extract. Alternately add flour, baking powder, and milk. Mix carefully.
- 3 Turn batter into a greased and floured cake tin. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for about one hour.
- 4 For icing, boil 1 cup water and 2 cups sugar until it forms a soft ball (240°F).
- 5 Pour hot syrup over 4 well-beaten egg yolks. Beat until smooth and thick.
- 6 Add 1 1/2 tsp orange extract to icing. Spread immediately over the cooled cake.
