Oatmeal Molasses Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1 cake yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted fat
- About 6 cups bread flour
Method
- 1 Scald the rolled oats with the boiling water and let stand until cool.
- 2 Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water and add to the oat mixture when cool.
- 3 Add the molasses, salt, and melted fat. Stir in enough bread flour to knead.
- 4 Turn onto a floured board and knead lightly. Return to bowl and let rise until double in bulk.
- 5 Knead and shape into loaves. Let rise until double again.
- 6 Bake in a 350°F oven for 45 minutes.
