Oatmeal Gruel With Toast And Raisins

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oatmeal
  • Water (as needed to mix)
  • 1 pint boiling water
  • Sugar to taste
  • Nutmeg to taste
  • 1 slice toasted bread, cut up (or dried rusk)
  • Raisins, stoned and chopped (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Mix oatmeal with a small amount of water to form a smooth paste.
  2. 2 Stir the paste into a pint of boiling water in a saucepan until smooth.
  3. 3 Boil for a few minutes, then season with sugar and nutmeg.
  4. 4 Pour over toasted bread pieces or dried rusk. Add raisins if desired.
