Molded Sugar Fondant Balls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 9 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Flavoring and coloring of choice
  • Nuts (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. 2 Add cream of tartar; do not stir after boiling begins.
  3. 3 Boil for four minutes, then test by dropping syrup into water to see if it forms a soft ball.
  4. 4 Remove from heat and let cool until the surface wrinkles when touched.
  5. 5 Stir vigorously until the mixture thickens and can be molded by hand.
  6. 6 Add flavoring and coloring, then mold into shapes or roll into balls.
  7. 7 Place on greased parchment paper to set.
