Molasses Walnut Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white flour, sifted
  • 2 cups graham or whole wheat flour, sifted
  • ½ cup New Orleans molasses
  • salt to taste
  • 2 cups milk or water
  • 1 cup walnut meats, cut up fine
  • 1 teaspoon soda dissolved in milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Method

  1. 1 Combine flours, molasses, salt, milk or water, walnuts, soda mixture, and melted butter in a large bowl.
  2. 2 Mix well and let the batter rise for 20 minutes.
  3. 3 Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for about one hour.
