Molasses Oatmeal Bread
Ingredients
- 2 cups boiling water
- 2 tablespoons Crisco
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup molasses
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ cake yeast
- ½ cup lukewarm water
- Flour, as needed
Method
- 1 Pour boiling water over oats and let stand for one hour.
- 2 Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Add molasses, salt, Crisco, and yeast mixture to the oats.
- 3 Add flour to form a stiff dough. Knead well, then let rise.
- 4 Knead lightly, divide into two greased bread pans, and let rise again.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 40 minutes.
