Molasses Hard Candy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 5 tablespoons Crisco
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Dissolve sugar in water in a saucepan over heat.
  2. 2 Add Crisco, molasses, and salt; boil until the mixture forms a hard ball in cold water or reaches 254°F.
  3. 3 Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  4. 4 Pour into a Crisco-greased tin and let cool completely.
  5. 5 Break the cooled candy into rough pieces.
