Ingredients

  • 2 cups molasses
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons powdered ginger
  • 1 teaspoon powdered mace
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • Flour

Method

  1. 1 Cream Crisco and sugar together.
  2. 2 Add molasses, spices, salt, and soda mixed with boiling water.
  3. 3 Add sufficient flour to make a stiff paste.
  4. 4 Roll out thin, cut with a small cutter, and place on greased baking sheets.
  5. 5 Bake in a 425°F oven for 5 to 7 minutes.
