Milk Bread
Ingredients
- 1 yeast cake
- 1 quart milk
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons melted Crisco
- 2 tablespoons salt
- about 7 pints flour
Method
- 1 Mix yeast cake with 1 tablespoon sugar.
- 2 Heat milk, then add remaining sugar, melted Crisco, and salt.
- 3 Cool mixture, then add yeast and flour to form a stiff dough.
- 4 Turn dough onto a floured board, divide into three pieces, and knead/stretch each piece.
- 5 Let dough rise overnight or for five hours in a warm place.
- 6 Knead lightly, divide into greased pans, and let rise again.
- 7 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour.
