Milk Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1 quart milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons melted Crisco
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • about 7 pints flour

Method

  1. 1 Mix yeast cake with 1 tablespoon sugar.
  2. 2 Heat milk, then add remaining sugar, melted Crisco, and salt.
  3. 3 Cool mixture, then add yeast and flour to form a stiff dough.
  4. 4 Turn dough onto a floured board, divide into three pieces, and knead/stretch each piece.
  5. 5 Let dough rise overnight or for five hours in a warm place.
  6. 6 Knead lightly, divide into greased pans, and let rise again.
  7. 7 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for one hour.
