Milk-Blanch Pickled Onions With Mace
Ingredients
- small onions, peeled
- salt and water (for soaking)
- milk and water (for boiling)
- double-distilled vinegar
- 1-2 bay leaves
- salt
- mace
Method
- 1 Soak peeled onions in salted water, changing the water daily for 3 to 4 days.
- 2 Place onions in a pot with milk and water and bring to a boil.
- 3 Drain the onions and allow them to cool completely.
- 4 Prepare a pickle by combining vinegar, bay leaves, salt, and mace.
- 5 Pour the hot pickle mixture over the cooled onions.
