  • ½ lb cold meat, diced
  • ¼ cup barley
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • flour, for dredging
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 quart water
  • 5 potatoes, peeled and sliced

Method

  1. 1 Wash the barley. Dice the cold meat and finely chop the onions.
  2. 2 Combine meat, barley, and onions in a saucepan. Dredge with flour and season with salt and pepper.
  3. 3 Add water and simmer for 2 hours.
  4. 4 Add sliced potatoes and simmer for another hour until tender.
