Maple Cinnamon Sweet Rolls
Ingredients
- 2¼ cups flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons maple or brown sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1/3 to 2/3 cup water
- 1 egg
- milk for brushing
- extra maple or brown sugar for sprinkling
Method
- 1 Sift together flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
- 2 In a separate bowl, beat the egg with water and melted shortening.
- 3 Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well to form a soft dough.
- 4 Turn dough onto a floured board and shape into small rolls. Place close together on a greased shallow pan.
- 5 Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Brush with milk and sprinkle with a little sugar.
- 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 20 to 30 minutes until golden brown.
