Macerated Berry Cake Shortcake

Ingredients

• 1 qt strawberries
• 1 c sugar
• Biscuit or plain cake dough

Method

1. 1 Mash or chop the berries and add sugar; let stand until sugar dissolves.
2. 2 Bake biscuit or plain-cake dough in a single thick layer or individual cakes.
3. 3 Remove from pan and cut cakes in two with a sharp knife.
4. 4 Spread half of the berries over the lower piece of cake.
5. 5 Set the upper piece on the berries and serve with or without cream.
