Macaroni With White Sauce
Ingredients
- macaroni, broken into 2-inch pieces
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- milk or water, as needed
- salt to taste
Method
- 1 Bring a pot of water to a boil and add 1 tsp salt.
- 2 Add broken macaroni pieces and boil rapidly for 30 minutes.
- 3 Drain the macaroni in a colander and return it to the kettle.
- 4 Melt butter and whisk in flour until smooth to make a roux.
- 5 Add milk or water to the roux, stirring until thick like rich cream.
- 6 Cook the sauce for a few minutes, then pour over the macaroni. Season with salt and serve.
