Lemon Orange Meringue Float
Ingredients
- 1 quart water
- Juice and pulp of 2 lemons
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- 4 or 5 oranges, sliced
- 3 egg whites
- Sugar and flavoring to taste
Method
- 1 Combine water, lemon juice and pulp, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
- 2 Whisk in cornstarch and boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened.
- 3 Allow the syrup to cool completely.
- 4 Beat egg whites to stiff peaks, adding sugar and flavoring to taste.
- 5 Pour the cooled syrup over sliced oranges in a bowl. Top with large spoonfuls of the meringue.
