Lemon Orange Meringue Float

Ingredients

  • 1 quart water
  • Juice and pulp of 2 lemons
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 or 5 oranges, sliced
  • 3 egg whites
  • Sugar and flavoring to taste

Method

  1. 1 Combine water, lemon juice and pulp, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
  2. 2 Whisk in cornstarch and boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. 3 Allow the syrup to cool completely.
  4. 4 Beat egg whites to stiff peaks, adding sugar and flavoring to taste.
  5. 5 Pour the cooled syrup over sliced oranges in a bowl. Top with large spoonfuls of the meringue.
