Lemon Apple Custard With Bread Crumbs
Ingredients
- 4 cups stewed and mashed apples
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Juice and grated rind of 1 lemon
- ½ cup water
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 2 cups bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup milk
Method
- 1 In a bowl, combine stewed and mashed apples, sugar, butter, lemon juice, and lemon rind.
- 2 Add water, beaten eggs, bread crumbs, and flour; mix well.
- 3 Stir in milk and heat the mixture thoroughly.
- 4 Pour into a buttered baking dish.
- 5 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 40 minutes.
- 6 Serve with hard sauce, sugar, or cream.
