Layered Split Pea Rice With Meat

Ingredients

  • 1 cup split peas
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup rice
  • Water (enough to cover ingredients by 3 inches)
  • 1 small bag of mixed spices
  • Meat (beefsteak, ground beef, or mutton)
  • Coconut, grated
  • Onions, sliced and fried

Method

  1. 1 Soak split peas for several hours. In a pot, fry sliced onions, then add peas and rice. Brown slightly.
  2. 2 Cover with water (3 inches above ingredients) and add a bag of mixed spices. Boil until peas and rice are soft.
  3. 3 In a separate pan, fry the meat until cooked through.
  4. 4 Layer meat and the rice-pea mixture in a dish, ending with the rice-pea layer on top.
  5. 5 Steam the layered dish together. Serve topped with grated coconut and fried onions.
