Layered Apple Bread Pudding With Lemon
Ingredients
- 2 cups tart cooking apples, chopped
- 1 ½ cups stale bread crumbs
- 4 heaping tablespoons sugar
- 1 generous tablespoon butter
- grated rind of 1 lemon
- cream or hard sauce, for serving
Method
- 1 Butter a pudding dish.
- 2 Divide ingredients into four layers, starting with apples and ending with bread crumbs.
- 3 Sprinkle sugar and lemon rind over the apples, then cut butter into tiny lumps and scatter over the crumbs.
- 4 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 45 minutes.
- 5 Serve with cream or hard sauce.
