  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method

  1. 1 Place half the sugar in an iron saucepan over medium heat. Let it melt and brown, swirling occasionally.
  2. 2 Hastily add the water, remaining sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to combine.
  3. 3 Boil for about two minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. 4 Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Serve plain or with chopped fruit or nuts.
