Homemade Stovetop Apple Sauce

Ingredients

  • 10 medium-sized apples
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • lemon peel, cinnamon, or nutmeg (optional)

Method

  1. 1 Wash, quarter, and core the apples; peel if desired.
  2. 2 Place apples in a saucepan with water and cook until very soft.
  3. 3 Force the cooked apples through a colander or sieve.
  4. 4 Return pulp to stove, add sugar, and cook until dissolved and slightly thickened, stirring frequently.
  5. 5 Remove from heat and season with lemon peel, cinnamon, or nutmeg.
