Hickory Nut Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 6 egg whites
- 4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup sweet milk
- 1 cup hickory nuts, chopped and floured
Method
- 1 Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar together.
- 2 Beat 6 egg whites to stiff peaks.
- 3 Sift flour with 2 teaspoons baking powder three times.
- 4 Alternately add creamed mixture, 1 cup milk, and most of the flour to the bowl, stirring lightly.
- 5 Fold in remaining flour, chopped floured hickory nuts, and beaten egg whites. Do not beat.
- 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F).
