Hickory Nut Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 6 egg whites
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1 cup hickory nuts, chopped and floured

Method

  1. 1 Cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar together.
  2. 2 Beat 6 egg whites to stiff peaks.
  3. 3 Sift flour with 2 teaspoons baking powder three times.
  4. 4 Alternately add creamed mixture, 1 cup milk, and most of the flour to the bowl, stirring lightly.
  5. 5 Fold in remaining flour, chopped floured hickory nuts, and beaten egg whites. Do not beat.
  6. 6 Bake in a moderate oven (350°F).
