Grilled Garlic Flatbread

Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast (1/4 ounce)
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk (1%)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter

Method

  1. 1 Dissolve yeast in warm water in a large bowl and let stand 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. 2 Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough.
  3. 3 Knead on a lightly floured surface for 6-8 minutes until smooth.
  4. 4 Let dough rise for 1 hour until doubled in volume.
  5. 5 Punch down dough, knein in garlic, pinch into golf ball-sized pieces, and roll into balls.
  6. 6 Cover balls and let rise 30 minutes. Preheat grill to high heat.
  7. 7 Roll one ball into a thin circle. Lightly oil grill and place dough on it.
  8. 8 Cook 2-3 minutes until puffy and browned. Brush uncooked side with butter and flip.
  9. 9 Brush cooked side with butter and cook 2-4 minutes until browned. Repeat with remaining dough.
